What happened
On June 1, 2025, at approximately 11:55 local time, a Cessna 172 S was engaged in a solo instructional flight. The flight originated from San Rafael Aerodrome (SCAN) in Los Andes, traveling toward Víctor Lafón Aerodrome (SCSF) in San Felipe, Valparaíso Region.
During the landing phase at Víctor Lafón Aerodrome, the aircraft experienced an excursion at the end of runway 34. The aircraft came to rest approximately 50 meters beyond the runway threshold, oriented toward 070 degrees. The student pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and sustained no injuries.
The investigation
DGAC Chile investigators examined the aircraft at the site of the occurrence. The inspection revealed that the aircraft remained on its landing gear and maintained structural integrity, though it sustained significant damage. Specifically, the propeller showed damage resulting from impacts during the landing contact, and the right main landing gear was also damaged.
Meteorological data confirmed that weather conditions at the time of the event were suitable for Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC). The investigation is currently reviewing the aircraft's technical documentation, as well as statements from the student pilot and witnesses, alongside photographic and audiovisual evidence collected from the scene.
