What happened
On July 6, 2012, an EMB-820C Navajo, registration PT-ENG, was conducting a low-altitude aerial survey flight departing from Guanambi, BA. After approximately two hours of flight, the aircraft's right engine began to perform irregularly before failing completely. While the pilot was attempting to execute emergency procedures, the left engine also stopped functioning.
Operating at a low altitude, the pilot attempted an emergency landing in a rural clearing. During the approach, the aircraft struck trees, causing the tail section to separate from the fuselage and the main fuel tanks to rupture. The resulting impact and subsequent fire destroyed the aircraft. The pilot sustained fatal injuries, while one crew member suffered minor injuries and the third crew member escaped uninjured.
