What happened
On 15 July 2019, a float-equipped de Havill and DHC-2 MK I Beaver, registered as C-FJKI, was performing a day trip under visual flight rules in Newfoundland and Labrador. The aircraft, operated by Air Saguenay (1980) Inc., was traveling from a fishing lodge located at Crossroads Lake toward Mistastin Lake for a day of fishing. The flight was carrying a pilot and 6 passengers.
Due to the presence of mist and fog during the morning hours, the departure from the lodge was delayed, with the aircraft taking off between 0900 and 0930. Mistastin Lake, the intended destination, is a large body of water accessible only by air.
