What happened
On the morning of the accident, a cargo flight departed from Santo Domingo-Las Américas Airport at 08:22 local time, destined for Aguadilla. Shortly after takeoff, the flight crew contacted air traffic control to report experiencing technical issues with the aircraft. Following this communication, the aircraft was granted permission to perform an emergency return to the departure airport.
Approximately 88 minutes after the initial departure, the aircraft went down in a remote, isolated area within the La Romana region. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were two fatalities among the crew, as both pilots were killed in the accident.
Findings
While the specific mechanics of the crash remain under investigation, the crew had explicitly identified technical problems during the early stages of the flight, which preceded the eventual impact in the La Romana area.
