What happened
On June 3, 2018, at 18:30, a pilot arrived at a farm located near the settlement of Zarya in the Kalachevsky District of the Volgograd Oblast. The pilot was operating an MD-50VG ultralight delta aircraft, registration RA-0046G, to perform agricultural work. Prior to the flight, the pilot refueled the aircraft with a full tank of AI-9 and a full tank of engine oil.
According to witness statements, the pilot and a crew member had traveled to the site from the Shebalino area. While the pilot reported feeling well, he did note that he had experienced poor sleep. The pilot obtained meteorological information via the internet and did not submit a flight plan to the Air Traffic Control authorities before the operation.
