What happened
On April 21, 2018, a Piper PA-28-140, registration SX-SEX, was performing a flight from Messolonghi to Kopaida. The aircraft was carrying four pilots, two of whom were intended to disembark at the destination. During the return leg of the flight, while cruising at approximately 3,000 feet near the IXONI point, the crew reported an emergency to the Flight Information Centre due to a fuel supply issue.
As the pilot attempted an emergency landing on an old highway, the aircraft struck a horizontal support cable suspended between two electricity pillars. The impact forced the aircraft into a downward trajectory, causing it to strike the asphalt road. The accident resulted in one fatality and one injury.
