What happened
On March 16, 1962, Flying Tiger Line Flight 739 ceased communication while traversing the western Pacific Ocean. The aircraft was an Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation operating under a charter contract for the United States Army. Its primary mission involved transporting ninety-six military personnel from Travis Air Force Base in California to Tan Son Nhut International Airport in Saigon, South Vietnam.
Following its departure, the flight made a scheduled refueling stop at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. After leaving Guam and heading toward Clark Air Base in the Philippines, the aircraft vanished without issuing any distress signals or providing further location updates. The total number of individuals on board was 107, comprising the crew and passengers.
Investigation
Despite extensive search efforts, no wreckage or debris from the flight was recovered. Consequently, all 107 people aboard were officially declared missing and presumed dead.
