History and Operations
Nepal Airlines Corporation, originally named Royal Nepal Airlines, was founded in 1958 and serves as the flag carrier of Nepal. The airline's primary hub is Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, from which it operates domestic services within Nepal and medium-haul flights to destinations across Asia.
Fleet Evolution
The airline's inaugural aircraft was a Douglas DC-3, utilized for domestic routes and select destinations in India. In 1972, Nepal Airlines expanded into jet operations with the acquisition of Boeing 727s. As of February 2023, the airline's fleet consists of six aircraft.
Regulatory Status
Since 2013, Nepal Airlines Corporation has been included on the list of air carriers banned from operating within the European Union, a decision attributed to safety concerns.
