What happened
On 10 April 1973, an Vickers Vanguard 952 operated by Invicta International Airlines, operating as Flight 435, crashed during its flight from Bristol Lulsgate to Basel-Mulhouse. While navigating near Hochwald, Switzerland, the aircraft struck a forested hillside. The impact caused the plane to somersault and break apart. The accident resulted in 108 fatalities and 37 survivors out of the 139 people on board. This event remains the deadliest aviation accident to occur in Switzerland and the most fatal accident involving the Vickers Vanguard type.
