The aircraft involved was a Lockheed L-188A Electra, registered HK-777. It was manufactured in Burbank, California, United States, and first flew on 22 December 1959. Originally delivered to American Airlines on 31 December 1959 with registration N6125A, it operated with that carrier until being sold to Aerocóndor Colombia in April 1969.

Accident

On 27 August 1973, the aircraft took off from Bogotá-Eldorado Airport, Colombia, under conditions of limited visibility. The crew did not adhere to correct departure procedures. The Electra subsequently crashed into the side of Cerro el Cable mountain, approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southeast of the airport. The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate immediately, resulting in the deaths of all 42 persons on board.
