United Airlines Flight 2860 was a scheduled domestic cargo flight operating from San Francisco, California, to Chicago, Illinois, with an intermediate stop added at Salt Lake City, Utah. On December 18, 1977, the flight was being operated by one of the airline's Douglas DC-8 Jet Traders, registered as N8047U, while in a holding pattern over Utah.
The aircraft subsequently crashed into a mountain in the Wasatch Range near Fruit Heights, Utah. All three crew members, who were the only occupants of the airplane, were killed in the accident. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces.
