Accident
On 3 October 1978, a Douglas DC-3 aircraft operated by the Finnish Air Force crashed into Lake Juurusvesi in the Rissala area of Finland. The accident resulted in the deaths of all fifteen individuals on board, including crew members and passengers.
Cause
The subsequent investigation into the crash determined the cause to be a cracked exhaust valve in one of the aircraft's engine cylinders. This crack had developed as a result of metal fatigue, which compromised the structural integrity of the valve and led to the loss of engine power.
Victims
The passengers on the flight were predominantly politicians and prominent businessmen from Finland. They were traveling to attend a National Defence Course meeting, which was organized by the Finnish Defence Forces. The meeting aimed to provide national defense training to influential figures.
