Accident Sequence
The pilot reported that during level flight, the engine lost power without warning. The pilot then attempted a forced landing in an open field. According to icing probability charts, these temperature and dew point readings indicate that serious carburetor icing could occur at cruise power in float type carburetors. The pilot suspected that the engine power loss may have been caused by carburetor ice.
