Accident Overview
A student pilot was involved in an accident while attempting to land after a solo cross-country flight. According to the pilot's wife, who witnessed the event, the pilot made a go-around on his first approach. On the second approach, the aircraft touched down, bounced once or twice, power was added, and the aircraft lifted off. During this sequence, the aircraft angled to the left of the runway and subsequently collided with a row of trees approximately 360 feet from the runway centerline.
Pilot and Witness Accounts
The student pilot was unable to recall details of the accident. However, his wife, who was at the airport, provided a description of the events. She reported that the first approach resulted in a go-around, and the second approach led to the bounce sequence and eventual collision with trees.
Aircraft Examination
An examination of the aircraft was conducted, including an engine run-up. No preimpact mechanical malfunction or failure was found. The aircraft appeared to have been operating normally before the accident.
