Incident Summary
During the approach, the pilot could not obtain a safe down indication for the right main landing gear. Replacing the light bulb did not resolve the issue. A tower flyby was performed, but the tower operator was unable to confirm whether the right gear was locked.
Landing Gear Issue
To test the gear, the pilot conducted a landing approach and momentarily touched down on the runway. He observed that the right side of the aircraft settled lower than the left. After burning off excess fuel, he decided to land with the other two gears down and locked.
Attempted Landing
During the landing, the pilot could not keep the aircraft on the runway. It veered off the right side and traveled approximately 2000 feet before coming to rest with the right main landing gear collapsed.
Post-Accident Findings
Investigation revealed that the right push-pull tube assembly was bent from overload. Additionally, no record was found in the maintenance log indicating that the required 200-hour gear rig check had been completed. The aircraft had accumulated 1999 total flight hours. According to the service manual, the landing gear may not fully extend if it is out of rig.
