Background
Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight 426 was a scheduled domestic passenger service connecting Patenga Airport in Chittagong with Zia International Airport in Dhaka. The flight was operated by the national flag carrier of Bangladesh.
Accident
On 5 August 1984, the aircraft operating the flight, a Fokker F27-600, was on approach to Zia International Airport in Dhaka. Weather conditions at the time were reported as poor. During the landing phase, the aircraft crashed into a marsh near the airport. All 49 individuals on board, including passengers and crew, were killed. The accident is recorded as the second deadliest aviation incident involving a Bangladeshi airliner, surpassed only by US-Bangla Airlines Flight 211. Within the borders of Bangladesh, it remains the most lethal aviation disaster to date.
