Sequence of Events
A pilot taxied an aircraft to Runway 11 and exited the aircraft to check the wind conditions. At the time, the runway lights were not operating. After evaluating the conditions, the pilot determined that Runway 11 was the most favorable runway for departure and initiated a takeoff roll.
Wind Conditions
During the ground run, the pilot felt that the wind was pushing hard on the aircraft and that the takeoff did not feel right. The pilot elected to abort the takeoff. At the time of the accident, the wind conditions were favoring Runway 20, which was different from the selected runway.
Outcome
In the attempt to stop the aircraft, it ran off the left side of the runway. Upon exiting the runway surface, the left landing gear collapsed.
