What happened
The aircraft departed Dodge City, Kansas, on a cross-country flight destined for Hill City, Kansas. During the route, the pilot encountered instrument flight rules (IFR) weather conditions in the vicinity of Wakeeney, Kansas. The aircraft impacted terrain while heading east, approximately two and one-half miles north of the Wakeeney airport.
The investigation
Investigators examined the wreckage and operational records to determine the cause of the accident. The investigation did not reveal any mechanical failure or malfunction of the aircraft prior to impact. There was no evidence suggesting physical incapacitation of the pilot during the flight.
