Flight and Landing Decision
A pilot was concluding a local practice flight when she overflew the runway to assess conditions. Observing the windsock, she determined the wind was 5 knots from the north. For easier access to fuel tanks located at the south end of the airfield, she decided to land in the opposite direction, resulting in a downwind landing.
Accident Sequence
During touchdown, the aircraft veered to the left. In an attempt to correct the deviation, the pilot added engine power. However, control was not regained, and the aircraft continued off the runway. It subsequently collided with a berm, causing the aircraft to nosed over.
Investigation Findings
The accident investigation noted the pilot's decision to land downwind, the subsequent veer on touchdown, and the loss of control leading to the collision with the berm and nose-over. No other factors were identified in the report. The aircraft sustained damage during the event.
