Flight Details
The flight departed Grand Cayman on January 12, 1987, at approximately 1600 EST. About three hours into the flight, the cylinder head temperature (C.H.T) and exhaust temperatures on the left engine reached the red line following a loss of oil pressure.
Incident Description
The pilot secured the left engine after the temperature readings exceeded limits. Subsequently, the pilot observed fuel being siphoned overboard through the left main fuel cap. The fuel supply was exhausted, and the aircraft was ditched in the Straits of Florida approximately 82 statute miles at a bearing of 235 degrees from Key West International Airport.
Investigation Findings
According to the Director of Civil Aviation, Cayman Islands, B.W.I., no record could be found regarding the departure of N1204V from Grand Cayman on January 12, 1987. The aircraft has not been recovered, and therefore no determination could be made as to the malfunction of the engine or the loss of fuel as described by the pilot.
