Aircraft excursion following engine power loss during landing approach

Casualties unknown • LA Grange, TX, US

An aircraft experienced a lack of engine response while on the downwind leg, leading to an abbreviated landing and subsequent runway excursion.

What happened

The pilot flew over the airport and determined that the wind conditions favored a landing on Runway 18. While descending to the downwind leg, the pilot attempted to add power, but the engine failed to respond. Although the engine continued to run, the lack of power prompted the pilot to execute an abbreviated pattern using full flaps, intending to land on the final half of the runway.

Upon landing, tire skid marks began 600 feet from the end of the runway and continued toward the right side of the runway end. The aircraft then struck several runway lights, traveled down an embankment, and ultimately struck a fence post. There were no injuries reported in the accident.
