What happened
The pilot performed a normal approach to runway 36 with flaps fully extended and full nose-up trim applied, in accordance with the owner's handbook. The wind conditions were from the east at 3-8 knots. A three-point landing had been planned for the flight.
During the landing sequence, touchdown occurred on the tail and the right main wheel. As the left wheel made contact with the runway, the right wing lifted. In response, the pilot initiated a balked landing. During this maneuver, the nose of the aircraft pitched up abruptly, resulting in a departure stall to the right.
The investigation
Investigators examined the wreckage and noted that post-impact fire had destroyed the seat rails. While the occupants believed that the pilot's seat had slid rearward during the event, an examination of the wreckage showed that the front seats appeared to be in the same relative position.
