What happened
The incident occurred during a routine flight operation involving the towing of a glider. The pilot initiated the takeoff roll with the runway heading oriented toward the west. As the aircraft accelerated down the runway, the strong crosswind component severely impacted the pilot's ability to maintain directional control. Despite efforts to keep the aircraft aligned with the centerline, the aerodynamic forces exceeded the control authority available to the pilot. The aircraft began to drift off the paved surface and entered a soft, plowed field adjacent to the runway.
