What happened
The pilot was conducting a low pass prior to landing on a private grass strip. As the aircraft passed over the field, the pilot advanced the throttle to full power and established a climb. Shortly after being established in the climb, the engine gradually lost power. The pilot attempted to turn toward an area of small trees where the airplane subsequently crashed between the trunks of two trees.
The investigation
