What happened
The departure, climb, en route, and descent portions of the flight were conducted without incident. While on final approach for the ILS 19 approach at Teterboro, New Jersey, the captain configured the aircraft for landing. Due to reported wind gusts and turbulence, the pilot maintained an approach speed of Vref plus 30 knots.
As the pilot initiated the flare for touchdown on runway 19, the aircraft encountered windshear. This resulted in a hard touchdown on the main landing gear, followed by a bounce and a subsequent touchdown on the nose wheel. Following the impact, the captain stabilized the aircraft, reduced speed to taxi velocity, and exited the runway.
The investigation
An examination of the aircraft revealed substantial damage to the pressure bulkhead located near the nose gear box. Meteorological data recorded 26 minutes prior to the event indicated winds from 150 degrees at 26 knots, with gusts reaching 37 knots.
