What happened

On February 25, 2008, at 01:30 CST, a Boeing 777-200, registration N774AM, was taxiing from Terminal 2 toward runway 05R at Licenciado Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City, Mexico. The aircraft, operated by Aeromexico, was preparing for a scheduled international passenger flight to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

While following instructions from ground control to use taxiways B3 and A1, the pilot expressed uncertainty regarding whether there was enough ground clearance for the aircraft width on taxiway B3. As the captain proceeded along the centerline of taxiway B3, the aircraft experienced a "hard strike." The left wing of the airplane struck a light pole, prompting the pilot to stop the aircraft.

There were no injuries to the crew or passengers. Weather conditions at the time were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with visibility of 15 statute miles.
