What happened
On June 6, 2008, at approximately 1810 local time, a Boeing 737-2A5, registration OB-1799-P, operated by Aero Condor S.A.C., performed a return to FAP Captain David Abenzur Rengifo International Airport (SPCL) in Pucallpa, Peru. The decision to return was made after the aircraft experienced a very strong vibration following its departure from the airport.
There were no injuries reported among the six crew members or the passengers on board. The landing itself was described as uneventful.
The investigation
Following the landing, a post-flight inspection revealed structural damage to the aircraft. Specifically, the crew found that the left hand horizontal stabilizer was damaged, and portions of the left hand elevator and trim tab were missing. The investigation into the incident was conducted under the jurisdiction of the Comision de Investigacion de Accidentes de Aviacion (CIAA), with the NTSB providing a US accredited representative.
