Background
The pilot of an agricultural airplane was conducting spraying operations near a field bordered by a wooded area. The pilot flew along a set of power lines that ran over the woods, which restricted his ability to see both sides of the field he intended to spray.
Flight Maneuvers
After flying along the power lines, the pilot assessed the clearance and determined that he could "fit under the wire." He began his first spray run on the east side of the field, passing under the power lines without incident. Subsequently, he commenced a spray run on the west side of the field. As he approached the power lines, he realized that the "wire was too low to go under."
Pilot Actions
Rather than risk hooking the main landing gear on the wires and causing the airplane to flip onto its back, the pilot chose to "fly into the wire." The aircraft subsequently struck the power line.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the propeller, engine, empennage, wings, and landing gear.
