What happened
On April 27, 2009, at approximately 16:38 local time, a Boeing 737-2K9, registration XA-MAF, was operating as a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Guadalajara, Mexico. During the approach to runway 28 at Guadalajara-Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport, the flight crew identified an unsafe main gear indication.
In response to the indication, the crew held the aircraft for approximately 30 minutes to troubleshoot the issue and to burn off fuel. Despite these efforts, the gear issue remained unresolved, and the crew proceeded to land on runway 28 with the main landing gear retracted. The aircraft touched down on the nose gear and both engine nacelles.
The impact caused substantial damage to the aircraft and a small fire ignited on the left engine. While there were no fatalities and the 8 crew members were not injured, there were 4 minor injuries among the 108 passengers, who evacuated the plane using the emergency slides.
