Accident
On 20 May 2009, an Indonesian Air Force Lockheed L-100-30(P) Hercules crashed at approximately 6:30 local time. The aircraft was flying from Jakarta to eastern Java when it struck at least four houses before skidding into a rice paddy in the village of Geplak. The crash resulted in 99 deaths, with two of those occurring on impact. At least 70 other people were taken to a local hospital.

The accident aircraft was an Indonesian Air Force Lockheed L-100-30(P) Hercules, a military transport variant of the C-130 Hercules. It was carrying 112 people on board.
Aftermath
This accident is considered among the worst air disasters in Indonesian history. It was the first crash of an Indonesian Air Force aircraft since the 1991 Jakarta C-130 crash, which also involved a Hercules.
