What happened

On August 5, 2009, a Vueling Airlines Airbus A320-211, registration EC-ICQ, was prepared for flight VY9127 from Paris Orly (LFPO) to Alicante, Spain (LEAL). Following pushback from the gate and the completion of the engine start sequence, an undercowl fire occurred in the No. 2 CFM56-5A turbofan engine.

Ground personnel alerted the flight crew to the presence of smoke and flames emanating from the No. 2 engine. In response, the crew shut down the engine, which caused the fire to cease almost immediately. The crew then initiated an emergency evacuation of the aircraft. There were no fatalities, though several minor injuries were reported during the event.
