An amphibious airplane performing touch and go water landings water looped after the left sponson struck the water and later sank. Substantial damage to wings and fuselage. No mechanical malfunctions reported.

Accident Overview

The pilot of an amphibious airplane was conducting multiple touch and go water landings on a lake. During the final landing, which was oriented to the south, the airplane touched down with the nose slightly to the right. The left sponson subsequently struck the water, causing the airplane to water loop. Several minutes later, the airplane sank to the bottom of the lake.

Damage

The accident resulted in substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage.
