Accident Overview

A student pilot was conducting solo flight operations in a tailwheel-equipped airplane. After completing two successful stop-and-go landings, the student departed for a third solo circuit around the airport traffic pattern.

Final Approach and Go-Around

While on final approach, the student's flight instructor, observing from the ground, noted that the airplane appeared high and slow. The instructor radioed the student to execute a go-around, and the student complied.

Full-Stop Landing Instructions

On the downwind leg, the flight instructor directed the student to perform a full-stop landing. During the landing roll, the student pilot retracted the wing flaps and added engine power, as if initiating a takeoff. The instructor reminded the student that the landing was to be a full-stop.
