Accident Summary
According to a statement provided by the pilot, he was conducting a landing in a wheat field. The approach was made from the west, and the pilot flew a midfield downwind at 3,000 feet mean sea level (MSL) over the intended landing strip.
Sequence of Events
During the flare, the main landing gear became entangled with the tall wheat grass. This caused the airplane to lurch forward and to the right. Subsequently, the right wing struck the ground, and the airplane nosed over. The aircraft came to rest inverted and pointed in the direction opposite to its flight path.
Pilot's Remarks
The pilot noted that he had marked a 1,000-foot landing strip in the same field nine days prior to the accident. He stated that the wheat grass had grown considerably since that time.
