What happened
On October 31, 2012, at approximately 10:45 local time, a Cessna 206, registered as HC-CBG, was conducting a flight under visual flight rules from Edmundo Carvajalu Airport (SEMC) in Macas, Ecuador, to Nuevo Canuza, Ecuador. The flight was intended to pick up three passengers from a runway at the destination.
Approximately 17 minutes after departing, while the aircraft was level at 5,500 feet, the engine experienced a loss of power. After the pilot was unable to restore power to the engine, an attempt was made to perform a forced landing in a small plaza located in Kiim, Ecuador. During the final approach to the plaza, the aircraft's left wing struck a tree, resulting in a nose-first impact with the ground. The pilot sustained one serious injury, and there were no fatalities.
