Accident Details
A student pilot was returning to her home airport after her private pilot practical test was discontinued. During departure and initial climb, she maneuvered the airplane into a valley and then attempted to climb over a ridge. The ridge was approximately 1,500 feet higher than the departure airport elevation.
Pilot Actions
The student pilot reported that she realized as soon as she entered the valley that the airplane would not be able to climb over the ridge. She also stated that she was unable to turn the airplane around. Consequently, she performed what she described as a "controlled" crash into the trees.
Aircraft Damage
Examination of the airplane revealed substantial damage to the fuselage and to both wings.
Mechanical Status
The student pilot reported no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
