Accident Summary
On a private grass airstrip measuring 1,050 feet in length, a pilot attempted to land a single-engine airplane. According to the pilot's report, during the landing roll he realized he would not be able to stop the aircraft before the end of the runway. He added engine power to abort the landing, but the nose gear contacted soybean crops located off the departure end of the runway. The airplane then nosed over, resulting in substantial damage to the fuselage.
Pilot Report and Conditions
The pilot stated that the local wind was calm at the time of the accident. However, a weather observation recorded at an airport 11 miles from the accident site indicated winds from 220 degrees at 4 knots. The pilot further reported that there was no mechanical malfunction or failure of the airplane prior to or during the incident.
No injuries to the pilot (the sole occupant) were reported. The aircraft was substantially damaged in the nose-over event.
