Incident Overview
During a landing attempt, the pilot reported that the airplane touched down "a little hard" and subsequently performed a go-around. On the second landing approach, the right main landing gear collapsed, and the airplane exited the right side of the runway, resulting in substantial damage.
Pilot Statement
In a later statement, the pilot described the first landing as a "bounce." He suggested that a phenolic block in the airframe landing-gear support structure had failed, which he believed led to the gear collapse.
FAA Inspection
An aviation safety inspector from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examined the wreckage and photographs. The inspection revealed that an aluminum landing gear bracket, along with the surrounding structure, had failed due to impact and overload.

The accident resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft.
