What happened
On March 18, 2015, a Saab 340A operated by SprintAir SA landed at Poznań Airport (EPPO). Following the landing, the crew discovered that the nose landing gear could no longer be steered. Due to this malfunction, the scheduled subsequent flight was canceled.
The investigation
An investigation conducted by the operator revealed that the issue prevented the landing gear lever from being moved from the FI position back to the GI position after touchdown. Technical personnel reviewed the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and performed several maintenance actions to rectify the system. These actions included resetting the FI STOP OVRD PULL lever position, replacing brake number 1, replacing both main wheels, and performing technical adjustments to improve the operation of the nose gear steering bearings. Following these repairs, successful operational tests were conducted.
Findings
The investigation established that the inability to steer the nose gear and the failure to return the landing gear lever to the GI position were caused by the removal of fuse N9 (LDG RELAYS).
