Incident Overview

During a post-flight inspection of a Fairchild SA227-AT aircraft, registered as VH-UZI, maintenance personnel detected evidence of a fuel leak on the left-hand engine. The aircraft is powered by two TPE331-11U-611G Honeywell Turbine engines. Further examination of the left engine revealed a fire.

Investigation

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has initiated an investigation into the incident. In accordance with Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as the state of manufacture of the airplane and engines, has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the ATSB in their inquiry.
