Event Details
According to the pilot's report, the accident occurred during the landing roll of a tailwheel-equipped airplane. The pilot encountered a crosswind gust from the right, which caused the airplane to swerve off the runway to the right and subsequently enter a ground loop.
Damage
During the ground loop, the left wing and left horizontal stabilizer impacted the ground. The airplane sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact.
Pilot Report
The pilot completed the National Transportation Safety Board Accident/Incident Report Form 6120.1. The reported wind conditions were variable at 8 to 9 knots with gusts between 2 and 5 knots. The destination airport lacked an automated weather observation system.
Mechanical Condition
The pilot did not report any mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation of the airplane.
