What happened
On March 23, 2017, a Saab 340B, aircraft registration VH-RXS, was performing a climb when the crew identified abnormal vibrations and turbine temperatures originating from the right engine, a General Electric CT7-9B. In response to these indications, the crew performed an in-flight shutdown of the right engine. The aircraft subsequently returned to Dubbo, Australia.
The investigation
Following the landing, an examination of the right engine was conducted. The inspection revealed that the stage 4 turbine blades had sustained damage.
