Incident Overview
A student pilot on a solo cross-country flight encountered a hard landing while touching down in crosswind conditions. The airplane bounced, then landed hard, causing the propeller to strike the ground. The aircraft then tilted left, and the left wing struck the ground. The airplane came to rest in the grass adjacent to the runway.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the engine mount. No other damage was reported.

The student pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather Conditions
At the time of the accident, the automated weather observation system at the airport reported wind from 240° at 8 knots. The airplane was landing on runway 27R.
