What happened
On June 3, 2018, at approximately 16:00 LMT, an EC 1130 T2 helicopter completed a flight from Wesołowo to Warsaw Babice. Upon landing, the pilot observed a flashing amber warning light on the GOV warning panel, indicating a potential malfunction in the engine's Electronic Engine Control Unit (EECU).
Following the shutdown of the aircraft and a subsequent restart of the battery power, the amber warning light remained illuminated steadily on the GOV panel. The pilot documented the occurrence in the aircraft's technical logbook and reported the issue to the CAMO HPL and the maintenance personnel at the PART 145 organization, Heli Invest Services.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the electrical and engine control systems following the grounding of the aircraft. The maintenance organization, in consultation with the engine manufacturer, conducted a technical assessment to identify the source of the warning light.
Findings
- The investigation established that the primary cause of the incident was a malfunction of the engine EECU system.
- After the faulty component was replaced, a successful test flight was performed, and the aircraft was returned to service.
