Accident Details
According to the pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane, the accident occurred during landing when the airplane encountered a gust of wind. The pilot reported that the tail began to rise, and he responded by pulling the yoke "fully back." Subsequently, the airplane nosed over.
Aircraft and Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing lift strut. The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather Information
The airport's automated weather observation station reported that, approximately 30 minutes after the accident, the wind was from 160 degrees at 14 knots, gusting to 23 knots, and variable between 130 and 200 degrees. The airplane was landing on runway 21.
