What happened
On July 20, 2019, a student skydiver was performing her second jump of the day, specifically an AFF-2 training task, using a Navigator 220 parachute. The flight sequence, parachute deployment, and maneuvering were all executed correctly. The student landed near the control tower, within the area designated by the instructor.
However, during the landing phase, the student failed to maintain proper leg positioning. She landed with her legs unevenly joined, extending her right leg forward and placing the full weight of her body onto a single limb. Following the impact, the student reported an injury and remained seated until medical personnel and the instructor arrived. Due to the nature of the injury, a helicopter was dispatched to transport her to the hospital.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by the operator, confirmed that the landing resulted in a fracture of the right lower leg and tibia.
