What happened
On July 25, 2020, during a scheduled skydiving training session at Aleksandrowice Airport (EPBA), a student parachutist performed their first jump. The student successfully exited the aircraft and maintained a stable descent once the parachute canopy had fully inflated. The landing was executed into the wind on the grassy area of the airfield.
During the landing phase, the student adopted an improper body position. As the student made contact with the ground, they landed with their legs spread apart, resulting in a serious injury to one leg. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene, where they provided initial medical assistance before transporting the injured student to a hospital.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events during the landing maneuver and the physical circumstances of the impact. The investigation established that meteorological conditions at the time of the event did not contribute to the incident.
Findings
- The primary cause of the injury was the incorrect leg positioning during the landing process.
- There were no contributing environmental or external factors identified in this occurrence.
