What happened
On February 27, 2022, a Tecnam P2006T, registration SP-MMB, was conducting a practical flight training session for a CPL(A) license. The crew, consisting of a student and an instructor, had planned a flight involving take-off and landing at Warsaw-Babice (EPBC) and a series of circuit patterns over Warsaw-Modlin (EPMO).
During the approach to runway 08 at EPMO, the crew noticed that the landing gear indication was not showing as extended. The crew contacted Modlin Tower to verify the gear status, and the controller confirmed that the landing gear was not down. To rectify the situation, the crew proceeded to the UNIFORM waypoint, where they performed an emergency landing gear extension. After the extension, the crew flew over the runway to visually confirm the gear was locked, which was subsequently verified by the tower. The aircraft then proceeded to EPBC, where it landed safely and taxied to the hangar without further incident.
It was noted that a similar occurrence involving the same aircraft, landing at EPBC with the gear retracted, had taken place on May 22, 2022.
The investigation
The PKBWL examined the technical components of the aircraft's landing gear mechanism. The investigation focused on the discrepancy between the cockpit indications and the actual physical state of the gear during the approach at EPMO.
