Incident Overview
On 5 March 2024, Safarilink Aviation Flight 053, a De Havilland Canada Dash 8, was en route from Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, to Ukunda Airport, Kenya. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft collided with a Cessna 172 training flight operated by 99 Flying School. The collision occurred over Nairobi National Park.
Aircraft and Occupants
The Dash 8 was carrying all 44 persons aboard, none of whom were harmed. Following the collision, the Dash 8 returned to Wilson Airport and landed safely. Inspection revealed a missing part of the deicing boot, but the aircraft sustained no other reported damage.
The Cessna 172 was a training flight. After the collision, the aircraft spun out of control and crashed in Nairobi National Park. Both occupants of the Cessna were killed.
