What happened

On January 29, 2025, at approximately 14:17 Pacific standard time, a Cirrus Design Corp SR22T, registration N124LZ, was destroyed following an accident near Santa Barbara, California. The aircraft was being operated by LIMA ZULU AIRCRAFT CORP as a private Part 91 flight.

According to ADS-B data, the flight departed from Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA). After flying west for approximately 10 minutes, the aircraft returned to the airport and performed a touch-and-go landing on runway 15R. The aircraft remained within the airport traffic pattern. The final ADS-B data point recorded the aircraft approximately one mile north of the approach end of runway 15R, at an altitude of about 375 feet mean sea level and a groundspeed of 120 knots, in an area consistent with a base-to-final turn.

The aircraft subsequently impacted an open field, which resulted in a post-impact fire that consumed much of the airframe. The two pilots on board sustained 2 serious injuries and 0 fatalities.
